As an artist, I am continuously drawn to the wild, rugged environments of nature—especially places where freezing temperatures create sharp textures, jagged fractures, and immense stillness. Icescape is an emotional exploration of a frozen world, focusing intensely on the primal beauty found within the physical layering of ice and rock.
My goal was to create an intensely tactile artwork where the paint itself mimics the heavy, physical behavior of shifting glaciers. To achieve this depth, my technique relied on an aggressive, expressive application of professional heavy-body acrylics, carving out peaks and valleys across the canvas that actively catch ambient room shadows. The color palette is deliberately minimalist yet highly impactful. While the dominant fields of arctic white and slate gray evoke a sub-zero expanse, the sudden, sweeping currents of crimson red crash through the composition like thermal energy breaking through a frozen crust. These vibrant red accents add an intriguing layer of drama, suggesting a hidden, beating heart or a living force buried deep beneath the winter quiet.
