As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the quiet, magical transformations that wake up the Virginia countryside each year—specifically those hidden pond sanctuaries where new life begins to bloom in perfect safety. Spring Beauty is a visual psalm dedicated to that seasonal rebirth, balancing realistic structure with soft impressionistic emotion to convey the literal feeling of a fresh spring morning.
My goal was to create a comforting, story-driven landscape rich in organic textures. The creative process inside my studio required a beautiful combination of techniques. I began with smooth, translucent water washes to capture the glassy, mirror-like quality of the pond, and then used dense, rhythmic, staccato brushwork to paint the countless violet and lavender wisteria blossoms hanging heavy over the shoreline.
The inclusion of the swan family, with the protective parents guiding their delicate cygnets through the marsh grass, adds a deeply touching layer of life and quiet resilience to the composition.
